The LED unit comprises a plastic bobbin, a PCB assembly and an optional diffuser. The Bobbin mechanically connects to the stainless cables with two small screws. These also provide the electrical connections to the support cables. Once the screws are in place the PCB assembly can be fitted. This simply clips onto the plastic bobbin and automatically connects to the screws with two springs. Finally the optional diffuser is fitted. This is just a push on fit. For applications where mechanical rigidity of the support cables is not so crucial a version which simply clips onto the support cables is available. The clips still provide a mechanically strong connection but would not be suitable for use where the support cable is being held into shape by the LED units. The clip on version does not use a plastic bobbin. The PCB assembly has cable clips fitted directly. This version features faster installation and lower cost.
The PCB assembly has four RGB LEDS and the special decoding circuitry to interpret the combined power and data signals. Prior to installation the LED units are each given an address value between 1 and 150 using the hand programmer described below. This allows them to be uniquely identified on the system.
