SOPHISTICATED LIGHTING EFFECTS - MADE SIMPLE!

dfs4000_header202

DFS4000

The  DFS4000 system uses six RGB LEDs to produce a high output light source for general and concealed lighting applications. Up to 100 LED units connect to a DFS4000 power unit all on a common cable. The use of just one standard two conductor cable simplifies installation and allows complete individual colour / intensity control of every unit unlike many pelmet lighting systems which can only control a complete strip of lights together. Principally intended for pelmet and concealed lighting applications. The LED units can connect to the cable at any spacing up to a maximum cable length of 50M.

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

DFS4000 LED UNIT

The DFS4000 LED unit comprises a metal base, a PCB assembly and screws to fasten the two parts together. The metal base is manufactured from anodised aluminium with a black finish.  The PCB assembly comprises decoding circuitry to recover the combined power and data information,  LED drive circutry and the LEDs. The LEDs are driven with true constant current not PWM. This gives excellent visibility even when viewed with a camera. The system provides full 8 bit independent  control of the red, green and blue LEDS.  There are six RGB LEDs which give a total output of approximately 4500mCD.

Up to 100 LED units can be attached to a common two conductor standard speaker cable. The cable cross section is just 6mm x 3mm. Connecting the LED unit to the cable is very simply achieved by just placing the cable into the aluminium base fitting the PCB assembly on top and then screwing this down with two small M2.5 screws which are provided. The PCB assembly incorporates cable piercing pins which cut the cables insulation to automatically form a connection.

Up to 100 LED units can be placed at any spacing along the cable up to a maximum length of 50M.

Once the units are fitted in place they are each given a unique address using the hand programmer described below. This operates over a short range infra red link.

LED UNIT MAIN FEATURES

  • High efficiency LED system for cool running high light output.
  • Full 8 bit RGB independent control.
  • Compact size of just 45 x 30 x 11.5mm.
  • Failure of one LED unit will not effect the rest of the system.
  • Easy to assemble with only a screwdriver required
  • Connects using standard loudspeaker cable.

Connecting a DFS4000 LED unit to the cable

The DFS4000 power unit operates from 230 or 110VAC and controls up to 100 LED units. The system accepts LED control information from DMX. Address offset switches are provided to set the DMX base address.. The system updates every LEDs control information 25 times per second. The power unit is protected from wiring short circuits and has built in self test circuitry.

POWER UNIT MAIN FEATURES

  • Standard DMX data input.
  • Simple single cable system.
  • Controls up to 100 LED units.
  • Protected from wiring faults.
  • Measures just 280 x 245 x 60mm.

HAND PROGRAMMER

The hand programmer is a commissioning and maintenance tool used to set the address of each LED unit. The programmer communicates to the LED units over a short range infra red link. To initiate programming the power unit must be switched on and set to programmer mode. The LED units will initially illuminate blue but will switch to green once thay have been given a valid address.

Programming is performed as part of system commissioning. Once the address is set the programmer automatically increments to the next address. The whole process takes just a few seconds.

The programmer can also read an LED unit address and initiate a simple test of the LEDS to verify correct LED unit operation. LED units can be reprogrammed thousands of times without damage.
